Team India on Wednesday defeated New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 semi-final and marched into the final of the ICC tournament. Courtesy of some high-class batting by Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, and sensational bowling by Mohammed Shami, Team India knocked New Zealand out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The INDvsNZ World Cup 2023 semi-final was historic as Virat Kohli made the Guinness World Record after he scored his 50th Century surpassing his idol Sachin Tendulkar's record in ODI format.

Virat Kohli scored 117 runs off 113 balls and now stands at the peak of the list of batters with a number of centuries in one-day internationals. While many believe that Virat Kohli's record of 50 centuries cannot be broken, former Pakistani cricketer Misbah-ul-Haq opined that Kohli's record can only be broken by an Indian. During The Pavillion at Pakistani channel A Sports, Misbah expressed that Virat Kohli's record is difficult to break but will be done by an Indian. Below is what Misbah-ul-Haq said-

Who can break Virat Kohli's 50-centuries record?

Misbah said, "Koi Indian hin karega agar karega toh. Shubman Gill kar saktey hain. Kyunki Ye Kheltey hain. Ye nahi kartey ki ek format ko wo bhul jatey hain. Inko pata hai 4 saal baad world cup khelna hai hamne toh ek certain number of ODIs ye khelengey. Apne Team ko develop karne ke liye. Ye ek certain number ke test match bhi khelengey, it does not matter T20 World Cup hai ya nai hai, ODI series bhi khelengey. Shubman Gill ke paas chance hai.

(An Indian will break his record. Shubman Gill has got the potential. The reason is that the Indian Team does not leave out playing a format just because of its commercial basis. They know that after four years, they have to play an ODI World Cup. Therefore, they will play a certain number of T20, ODI, and also Tests. It does not matter if the T20 World Cup is coming next year, they will place ODIs as well. Shubman Gill certainly has the chance to break Virat Kohli's record).

It is pertinent to mention here that Virat Kohli is still playing the ODI format and he can pile up many more centuries till he plays the 50 overs format.
