Shiv Kumar is the President of Mazdoor Adhikaar Sangathan. After activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested, he too was detained from Singhu border.

Reportedly, he said he would like to be a "baaghi" after a film was screened on Shaheed Bhagat Singh in Haryana's Sonipat. At that time, he was a student of Class 12.

According to a report published in The Quint, Shiv Kumar's friend claims that he has been arrested for protesting for the rights of poor people.

Kumar's friend added that he always used to talk about the condition of farmers and laborers as in how they were paid less wages.

Mazdoor Adhikaar Sangathan was a Kundli based organization. According to reports, Shiv was picked up by police after Nodeep Kaur on January 6. Nodeep Kaur was arrested four days prior to his arrest. She is also a member of the same platform.

What does police claim?

Police claims that they tried to extort factory owners. They were also alleged to have assaulted personnel.

Shiv's fragile eyes

According to sources and several reports, Shiv requires medical aid from AIIMS for both his eyes.

After completing his senior secondary education, Kumar pursued diploma from ITI. He used to get monthly wage of Rs 8,000 after he was employed in a factory at Kundli.

Reportedly, his family and friends got to know about his arrest on January 31.

Ravi Kumar, SHO, Kundli Police Station said Kumar was arrested on January 23. The Indian Express quoted the SHO as saying, “His family was informed about the arrest… Whether or not they have been able to met him is something the jail authorities can speak about. But there is no reason for them to deny a meeting as per norms… Both Nodeep and Shiv have been arrested in connection with the same case. More arrests will be made.”

Hi family supports his activism. While Nodeep Kaur's arrest got global attention, it was Shiv whose arrest did not get much glare from public.
