For the unversed, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have been embroiled in a long three-year legal battle against the 83-year-old Carl Westcott. Carl Westcott had alleged that there is a disagreement in their contract. To be precise, Carl Westcott, an 83-year-old veteran, agreed to sell his lavish property to Perry and Bloom for $15 million in July 2020. However, three years after closing the purchase, he filed a case alleging that he sold it while he was under the influence of heavy medication especially painkillers. Now, the question arises who is Carl Westcott, and what he actually wants that even Perry & Bloom are not ready to give.

Who is Carl Westcott?

Before knowing about Carl Westcott, it is pertinent to mention here that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom will move to the trail to buy the house. A non-jury trial for the lawsuit is scheduled for Aug. 21, 2023, at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles. Now coming to Carl Westcott, he is an 83-year-old who is suffering from Huntington's disease and is currently serving the last few years of his life as his complaint suggests. Now, the question arises why Perry & Bloom are going ahead with the trial? The answer lies in Carl Westcott's legal complaint. As per Carl, he was not in 'sound mind' when he sold the couple his $15 million Santa Barbara home.

As per US media reports, the legal battle dates back to 2020. In July 2020, Carl Westcott was presented with an offer to sell his recently purchased home to Perry and Bloom for $15 million. The business proposal came just days after Carl Westcott, who has Huntington's disease, underwent a six-hour back surgery. Upon release from the hospital, Carl Westcott was prescribed numerous medications for his recovery that allegedly left him in an intoxicated state.

All was going well when 'sober' Carl had a change of heart and he decided not to sell his property anymore. However, this change of heart came a bit late, a week later after the contract was signed. Westcott, therefore, emailed brokerage firm Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, which acted as a dual agent for the home's seller and buyer, explaining he had been under the influence of pain medication and didn’t want to sell his home.

However, Carl's email did not get a positive response from the brokerage firm. In response, Carl was given a letter from the Hollywood couple describing the couple's interest in purchasing the home. Still, the octogenarian remained adamant that he couldn't sell his home as he was in "the final few years of his life." Following his refusal to sell his home, the veteran received another letter from an attorney representing Gudvi, Perry, and Bloom. The letter stated Perry and Bloom were "not willing to walk away from purchasing Mr. Westcott’s home and he is obligated to complete the sale."

As a result, Carl approached the court and he is seeking cancellation of the residential sale agreement he entered, as well as associated standard real estate forms.
