Humans of Bombay, a well-known storytelling website sued another story-telling website & its rival named 'People of India' over copyright infringement. Humans of Bombay (HoB) which was founded in 2014 and went on to become a popular social media platform accused 'People of India' of copying its content, including its logo, tagline, and the format it primarily uses for its stories. Delhi High Court issued a notice to the 'People of India' as the HoB is seeking damages as well as an injunction to prevent PoI from using its content. The Delhi High Court on 18 September, issued a notice to PoI expressing concern over allegations of significant imitation. However, HoB suing POI took an unexpected turn when Brandon Stanton, the founder of Humans of New York (HoNY), which was established in 2010, took to social media to express his disappointment. Brandon pointed out the fact that although he has remained silent in the matter, it is disappointing to see the Humans of Bombay suing the People of India. "You can't be suing people for what I've forgiven you for," said Brandon Straton.

In response, Humans of Bombay issued a detailed statement and asked Brandon to keep his calm as the matter is subjudice right now. As a result, Karishma Mehta started trending on social media after her old video went viral in which she was heard saying "Completely randomly and out of the blue, I stumbled upon the idea of Humans of Bombay.". Who is Karishma Mehta, Founder of HoB?

Karishma Mehta is a 21-year-old entrepreneur who founded Humans of Bombay in 2014. As per reports, Karishma is a writer, photographer and TEDx presenter. For those who are unaware, HoB is an Indian storytelling website based on the same concept as Humans of New York. In 2014, the website first appeared as a Facebook Page. Karishma started a YouTube video series called "How The Hell Did I Do It?" in 2022, which is based on interviews and involves successful businesses, famous personalities, and other people who have achieved success addressing questions about how they did it.

Karishma started the page when she was just 21 years old. Karishma was born and raised in Mumbai. She attended the Bombay Scottish School, Mahim. She attended a boarding school in Bangalore for 2 years then college in the UK for three years. Talking about college, Karishma Mehta was an Economics and business student in the UK. She is a freelance writer for various publications, including National Geographic. She has been a regular TEDx presenter and has spoken several times at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.

HoB's response to HoNY

In response to Stanton's criticism, the HoB issued an open letter on X which stated, "It’s therefore shocking that a cryptic assault on our efforts to protect our intellectual property is made in this manner, especially without understanding the background of the case...HoB is all for the power of storytelling, and it should be done honestly and ethically. We believe in the honourable court of India and will request patience for the law to take its own course after hearing all facts of the matter."
