The famous music reality show American Idol, which started out in 2002 is still gaining traction with each iteration pulling in many long-standing fans till date. The American show based on the British show ‘Pop Idol’ is now in its 21st season and has shown no signs of decline. In its latest iteration, American Idol’s season 21-star judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were quick to hand the show’s coveted golden ticket to contestant Rachael Dahl who auditioned in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rachael is known for her singing abilities on Instagram and as a performing member of the Owosso community player’s theatre group. She studies as a biology student Alma College in Owosso, Michigan and was discovered by a former American Idol contestant who encouraged her to send her videos to the producers of the long running music reality show. Her talent was appreciated by the producers and she was invited to the Nashville round of auditions subsequently. There she performed Bonnie Tyler’s “hold out for a hero” and Cam’s “burning house” for the judges. Her stellar performance for the judges was not planned as she had been practicing a different song for weeks but had to improvise when judge Katy Perry disapproved of the choice.

Initially Luke Bryan was luke-warm to the idea of handing her the ticket but quickly changed his mind when fellow judge Lionel Richie appreciated her efforts and Katy Perry decided she wanted to give Rachael a chance. On being probed further about her experience she declined to furnish more details as she is bound by a confidentiality agreement.
