Who is Rishi Sunak: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has resigned from his post due to rebellion in the Conservative Party. 41 ministers of the Conservative Party had resigned within two days, after which there was a lot of pressure on them to resign. 

However, Boris Johnson will continue as prime minister until a new leader is elected in October. This pressure was on Boris Johnson only when Rishi Sunak, who was the Finance Minister in the UK government, resigned on 5 July. After the resignation of Boris Johnson, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak is considered to be at the forefront of the race for the next Prime Minister of Britain.

Rishi Sunak's parents are of Indian origin. However, he was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton, England. Rishi Sunak's father is a doctor, while his mother used to run medical. Rishi is the eldest of his three siblings. Rishi Sunak's grandparents were born in Punjab province (British India). However, in the 60s, he immigrated to Britain with his children.

Rishi Sunak took a degree in Political Science from Winchester College, UK. He then studied Philosophy and Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford University. He has done Stanford University MBA. After graduation, he also worked with the investment firm Goldman Sachs for a few years.


When Rishi Sunak was studying MBA at Stanford University, he met Akshata, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy. After this the two became friends and in 2009 they decided to get married. Rishi Sunak and Akshata have two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka. 

Rishi Sunak, 42, became an MP for the first time in October 2014. He is a Member of Parliament from Richmond (York) in North Yorkshire. Rishi worked as a junior minister in the cabinet of British Prime Minister Theresa May. His work in the Conservative Party was also praised. 

He was once again elected with a majority in the 2017 elections. He was also the Chief Secretary of the Treasury from 2019 to 2020. Let us tell you that in 2020, a survey was conducted by a UK firm, in which 60% of the people there had told Sunak as their favourite candidate for the post of PM.
