Each of the Indian Predator seasons talks about different serial killers or criminals who jolted the nation and terrorized people in different timelines. Now, Beast of Bangalore is bringing another spine-chilling story that terrorized the women of South India especially Bangalore, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Who is Umesh Reddy?

For the unversed, Umesh Reddy is a serial rapist and serial killer from India. He confessed to killing 18 women, however, was convicted in 9 cases. The police believe that he raped at least 20 women in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. They also suspect that several of his crimes have not been reported, because the victims feared social stigma. The Karnataka High Court sentenced Reddy to death in 2009, a decision upheld by the Supreme Court of India in 2011. After Reddy filed a mercy petition, the Supreme Court commuted his death sentence to a 30-year sentence in 2022.

Reddy was identified at a Republic Day police parade by one of his early victims who managed to escape his clutches. Umesh Reddy was a District Armed Reserve Police Officer in Chitradurga. The notorious criminal committed numerous rapes and murders while committing countless escapes from police custody over the course of six years. Notably, Umesh had a bizarre obsession with women's underwear, which he would steal not just from his victims but also from other women if he saw them hanging it up to dry. In fact, each time he was nabbed by the police, he was wearing women's underwear.

To be precise, in November 1996, Umesh attempted to rape a high school girl in Chitradurga. She managed to escape by hitting him with a stone. A month later, he raped and murdered a 16-year-old in the same town. In January 1997, the girl he attempted to rape identified him at a Republic Day police parade and he was then arrested and dismissed from service.
