Who killed Amar Singh Chamkila?
On March 8, 1988, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur were shot dead. They were in village Mehsampur in Jalandhar district for a concert along with fellow musicians. Shots were fired at them when they were exiting their vehicle. All of them were rushed to a local hospital where Chamkila and his wife were declared dead.
Although reports suggest that the case remains unsolved to date, however, a Pro Khalistani militant Loveshinder Singh Dallewal was once quoted by Tribune Punjab in which he talked about Amar Singh Chamkila's killers. As per Loveshinder Singh Dallewal, the assassination of Amar Singh Chamkila was carried out by the All India Sikh Student Federation. Gurjeet Singh group and Labh Singh's Khalistan Commando Force members carried out the murder of Amar Singh Chamkila.
As per Dallewal, they had asked Chamkila to stop singing vulgar songs however, the Punjabi singer did not stop. As a result, they held a meeting in Ludhiana Engineering College, with about 19 Sikhs to plan Chamkila's assassination.
On 8 March 1988, They first went to Chamkila's Ludhiana office but could not find him there but found out he was in Jalandhar's Mehsampura village. Deepa Gurnek Singh and Sukhdev Singh Sodhi shot Amar Chamkila and his wife.
For the unversed, Dallewal worked for KCF in 1986. After Amar Singh Chamkila's murder, they were arrested by police and were tried for several murders but were acquitted due to lack of evidence. However, it was KCF that took responsibility for Chamkila's killing. Interestingly, two months after that the 3 killers were shot dead in an encounter with police encounter in Phillaur.
