In a shocking development, a 16-year-old queer died by suicide after being subjected to continuous online hate. Pranshu, famous by the username glamitupwithpranshu, was subjected to social media criticism after he posted a video on Diwali. Pranshu's Diwali Instagram reel showcased him changing his attire in Saree with full makeup. As a result, netizens on social media started abusing and posting hate comments against Pranshu. Made In Heaven' web series actor Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju claimed Pranshu's comment section was flooded with over 4,000 homophobic remarks which abetted them to die by suicide. Who was Pranshu?
Pranshu was a queer social media influencer who used to post videos and photos on Instagram. Although Pranshu used to face hate comments on daily bases (seeing his Instagram profile), his Instagram Reel on Diwali brought too much online hate. Hailing from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Pranshu was studying in Class 10.
As per reports, Pranshu was fed up with the hate he faced online for being queer. Therefore, the aspiring influencer who had over 17k followers on his Instagram page, took his own life by allegedly hanging himself using his mother’s dupatta on Tuesday.
Reportedly, Police officials were quoted saying, "...the minor boy was home alone and hung himself using his mother’s dupatta." The Police official added that the police had seized his mobile phone and the reason behind his suicide death is being established. "The student’s mobile has been seized and details will be obtained from Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. There is no solid basis established behind the suicide yet,” Nagjhiri Police Station in-charge, Kamal Singh Gehlot was quoted as saying.
After Pranshu's suicide, many people commented on the Diwali reel. A user wrote, "To all the people who are still abusing him in the comment section. He committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself (21-11-2023). Please be kind to everyone it doesn't cost anything."
Another user wrote, "I’m so sorry we failed you as a society. Rest in peace my darling. You didn’t deserve this at all."
"I hope everyone who left a negative comment here knows you killed an innocent little boy, you have blood on your hands," wrote another user.
One more user wrote, "Every person who commented negatively should be punished. How many ever are there."
