Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead on Friday in broad daylight in Amritsar. Despite tight Police security two miscreants open fired at Sudhir who was sitting at a dharna near Gopal Mandir in Amritsar. While one of the miscreants named Sandeep Sunny was arrested from the spot, the other one fled from the spot. After Sudhir Suri's murder, multiple theories started revolved and the most prevalent among those was he was killed by Pro Khalistan outfits. However, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasised that Sudhir Suri's murder is currently under investigation and therefore communal angle cannot be confirmed as of now. Now, the question arises who was Sudhir Suri and why was he on the target of Pro -Khalistan outfits?

Reportedly, Sudhir Suri was a Hindutva right wing leader in Punjab. Suri was a leader of a local outfit that uses the name Shiv Sena Taksali. He was holding protest outside a temple against its management when at least five shots were fired from a pistol, allegedly by a local shopkeeper. Sudhir was a controversial leader of Shiv Sena who is being accused of delivering fake speeches against the Sikhs (minorities) living in the country. In fact, Suri's video has been going viral on social media in which he can be seen inciting people to wipe out 2 percent of minorities from the country. To be precise, Suri incited people to kill the Sikhs in the country and even said that wiping 2 percent of people is also 'quite easy'.

Reportedly, a total 5 cases of hate speeches was lodged against Sudhir Suri. In fact, Suri was also arrested by Punjab Police a few years back from Indore over an objectionable video clip allegedly denigrating women and inciting enmity between different groups. Two Punjab Police teams, comprising 11 personnel of Amritsar (Rural) district, had nabbed Suri, (then) Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta was quoted by a newswire. Not only this, Suri had the protection of 15 Police personnel due to life threats he used to get.

Shiv Sena leader murder case in a nutshell

On Friday, Sudhir Kumar Suri, the Shiv Sena leader was shot at around 3:30 pm near Gopal Mandir on Friday. Sudhir Kumar Suri was on the hit list of Pro-Khalistan elements for the past few months. Reportedly, the accused shot 2 bullets at Sudhir while he was in the dharna. His supporters were also present there when the incident took place. Explaining the incident, witnesses told that as he was on a protest, someone suddenly fired on him after which he was taken to the Escort Hospital by his security personnel. Police reveal that some unidentified youths came near Gopal Mandi, and opened fire on Sudhir Kumar Suri. Soon after this, he was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.
