Why #Boycott_MakeMyTrip is trending on X?

The answer is a PIL. As per reports, a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court outlining the issue of potential misuse of customer data by MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, and SkyScanner. The public interest litigation (PIL) is seeking the central government to restrain travel companies from sharing personal data of customers—name, address, phone number, Aadhar, Passport, etc.

However, the Delhi High Court reportedly dismissed the petition on April 3, 2024, stating that it had not received any representation from the Union of India. The court then asked the petitioner to raise the grievance with the Union of India. The plea was moved by Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, a BJP leader, who stated that foreign travel companies not only collect the data of the common man but also the personal data of lawmakers, Ministers, Judges of the Supreme Court, and High Court, defense personnel, Civil Servants, and their family members.
