Why did YouTube remove String channel from its platform? Vivek Agnihotri & netizens slam video-streaming giant

America-based vide-streaming website YouTube on Thursday came under the scanner of social media in India after it deleted a channel named String from its platform without sharing any particular reasons. String which had more than 1 million subscribers on YouTube was removed abruptly by the video-streaming and sharing platform. String YouTube Channel which is run by Vinodh Kumar took to his official X handle, formerly known as Twitter, and shared a screenshot of an email he received from YouTube over the removal of his YouTube channel. Now, the question arises why did YouTube remove Vinodh Rai's channel? Below is what YouTube in its email said-

Why did YouTube remove String channel?

As per a vague email sent by YouTube, the platform said, "We have reviewed your content and found severe or repeated violations of our Community Guidelines. Because of this, we have removed your channel from YouTube. We know this is probably very upsetting news, but it's our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all. If we think a channel severely violates our policies, we take it down to protect other users on the platform - but if you believe we've made the wrong call, you can appeal this decision. You'll find more information about the policy in question and how to submit an appeal below."

Explaining its policies, YouTube further explained, "Channels that violate our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service may receive a strike or be terminated. Your existing YouTube channels, new channels you create or acquire, and channels in which you repeatedly or prominently feature will be terminated if you circumvent a strike restriction or previous termination."

Going by the content of String, it voiced its opinion against left lobbies & liberals. Also, YouTuber Vinodh Kumar used to expose the controversial statements or controversies in India sparked by left lobby.

Team String took to X handle and wrote., "No strike, no violation but straight delete..@TeamYouTube @YouTube Please explain whose boots you licked to do this to me? If you don’t bring back my channel asap, you will see how far I’ll reach. Mind you! YouTube is not the only platform where we can do free speech."

This statement by String also got YouTube's response which said, "we’re going to pass this along for a closer look."

String then replied, "I would really appreciate it if you could recover the channel!"

Interestingly, Vinodh had recently announced that he has shot a podcast with National Award-winning film-maker Vivek Agnihotri over his upcoming film- The Vaccine War. The Vaccine War is a true story depicting how India developed its indigenous COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin. As a result, Vivek Agnihotri also took to his X handle and lashed out at the left lobby and the video streaming & sharing website for taking down String YouTube Channel.

Agnihotri wrote, "Yesterday @StringReveals announced our podcast on ‘Toolkit Gang’ which was employed by India’s enemies to sabotage Indian Vaccine Project. Fearing the exposé, Toolkit Gang went on to mass report to

@YouTube and got the channel deleted without any warning. Free speech messiahs want to silence #TheVaccineWar but they can NEVER silence us. Just wait and watch."

It is pertinent to mention here that it is not the first time String's YouTube channel has been taken down. As per reports, in 2021, YouTube pulled down a video that exposed the content of the Greta Thunberg Toolkit and included the names of various media outlets, journalists, and ‘activists.’ The reason cited for this removal by the video-sharing platform is “harassment and bullying.”

A user wrote, "It is regrettable and completely condemnable that @YouTubeIndia has dictatorially suspended the channel of @StringReveals from its platform. This is a violation and oppression of Freedom of speech."

Another user wrote, "Toolkit Gang Suspended #STRING YouTube Channel. This is a threat to the voice of right wing. It’s an attack on free speech and the human rights of Indian citizens. Please raise your voice now. If you are still silent, next they will shutdown yours! "
