It is said that education ends unemployment, however, a man in Amritsar who has done a Ph.D. sells vegetables by roaming street to street. Famous by the name 'Ph.D. Sabzi Wala', Dr. Sandeep Singh is highly educated having done M.A. Punjabi, M.A. in Journalism, M.A. Law, Women’s Studies, and a Ph.D. Despite having numerous degrees, Dr. Sandeep has to sell vegetables to meet his daily needs. While it is true that no work is small, having so many degrees and still selling vegetables has indeed raised the nation's interest, especially among the people of Punjab. Before selling vegetables, Dr. Sandeep Singh worked as a contractual Professor at the Punjabi University but couldn’t secure a permanent position. He left after being disheartened at the politics that took place on the campus. "I am selling vegetables for my and my family's survival. I worked as a teacher at Punjabi University Patiala for 11 years...I left from there because surviving there was getting difficult day by day. Salary was also low. Also, the hope of being a regular from contractual was almost none."
Assuring the younger generations currently pursuing their studies, he says that all our destinies are unique. There’s no need to feel dismayed about their futures. He has spent 11 years as a contractual professor at the Punjabi University but couldn’t secure a permanent position. He left after being disheartened at the politics that took place on the campus. He says that he has spent countless sleepless nights and has worked very hard for his degrees but he is content with selling vegetables.
It is pertinent to mention here that when True Scoop News shared his video on its Instagram page, many gave their opinions. While some pointed out that his choice of subjects was not good, others asked why he did not try in the private sector.
