The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Bhupinder Singh Honey, the nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, in connection with a Prevention of Money Laundering case pertaining to illegal mining in Punjab, said officials on Friday.

Honey was summoned by the ED for the second time on Thursday and after a day-long questioning was placed under arrest, the official added.

According to sources, ED might summon CM Charanjit Singh Channi for investigation in this matter as ED officials have asked the following questions to Bhupinder Singh Honey:

1. To whom this Money belongs?
2. Does he manage the Sand mining work on behalf of his Uncle?
3. Does this Money belong to his Uncle?

Honey failed to give any satisfactory answer to the officials. Now, ED will try to get remand of Honey for maximum days possible.

As per reports, ED has confirmed proofs against Bhupinder Singh Honey but did not have any proof against Channi. The arrest of Honey has further increased problems for Channi.

Randeep Singh Surjewal, general secretary of the Indian National Congress, posted a series of tweets, related to this matter. In his tweet, he wrote,

“Political gimmick" of Modi government started again 15 days before Punjab elections!
BJP's "Election Deptt"-ED entered the fray.

Understand Chronology -

1. The people of Punjab are now paying the price for standing in favour of the farmers' movement…
Modi ji is doing fake raids and arrests in the desperation of defeat.

2. This attack is not on CM Channi, it is on Punjab, it is a punishment for supporting the farmers' movement.
This is revenge for tomorrow's call by farmers to "punish" BJP in elections.

3. This is an attack to help "Chhote Modi" - Kejriwal's party with "Chor Darwaza",
Kejriwal had notified the black law of agriculture, now the favor is back!

4. BJP's use of diversion of elections,
In the case of six (6) years old, on CM Channi and
Sidhu is being attacked in a 33-year-old case, supporting Kejriwal."

5. The people of Punjab have made up their minds not to allow the BJP and its allies to open accounts in this election.
The BJP's ED (Election Department) no matter how much fraud and conspiracy, cannot stop the return of Congress to power in Punjab with the blessings of Punjabis.
