Will ensure Covid-19 vaccine is distributed quickly, free of cost to every American: Joe Biden

President-elect Joe Biden has taken his 2nd dose of Covid-19 vaccine and emphasised the need to continue with social distancing and wearing masks.

US President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday said that his administration will ensure that all Americans get coronavirus vaccine free of cost. He reiterated his promise made during the election campaign.

Joe Biden in a tweet said, "We are going to ensure the vaccine is distributed quickly, equitably, and free of charge to every American."

Making all Americans vaccinated against the Covid-19 infection will be the major focus of his administration, added Biden. "Getting America vaccinated will be one of the greatest operational challenges we have ever faced, but my administration will spare no effort to get it done," Joe Biden said.

 

Earlier in the day, Joe Biden received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine and urged the people to take the vaccine when their turn comes.

He said in a tweet, "Folks, I just received the second dose of my Covid-19 vaccine -- and just like the first dose, it was safe, quick, and painless. I urge everyone to get vaccinated once it's your turn. Because only together can we save lives and beat this virus.”

 

US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris too said controlling the pandemic will be the main focus of the Biden-Harris administration in its first 100 days.

"The first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration will focus on getting control of this pandemic-ensuring vaccines are distributed equitably and free for all," Kamala Harris tweeted.

 

Meanwhile, on Monday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said around 9 million Americans have been injected with their first Covid-19 vaccination dose.

He emphasized the need to continue following Covid-19 safety protocol such as social distancing and mask-wearing.

The United States - the world's hardest-hit country, some 375,000 people have died from the coronavirus and about 3,000 more are dying every day.
