In a move to defend herself amidst the boycott culture prevailing against the stars of the industry, Alia Bhatt asked those boycotting to not watch if they don’t like her.

In an interview given to the Mid-Day recently, Alia Bhatt said, “I can’t keep defending myself verbally. And if you don’t like me, don’t watch me. I can’t help it. That’s something I can’t do [anything about].”

The statement echoed similar thoughts coming in from Bollywood stars like Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan who have witnessed a catastrophe in the form of a disaster that their film ‘Lal Singh Chaddha has been through.

The interviewer was asking Alia about her stance on the trolling she faced about being the star kid, to which Alia responded, “People have something to say. Hopefully, I will prove to them with my movies that I am actually worth the space I occupy.”

Alia Bhatt is now busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Brahmastra’ with co-star husband Ranbir Kapoor. The statement coming from Alia goes on the same tune as her sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan who during a public meeting in 2020 termed the whole debate around nepotism as weird.

She then went on to say, “The audience has made us, no one else has made us. Same people pointing fingers are the ones who have made these nepotistic stars right? Aap Jaa Rahe Ho Na Film Dekhne? Mat Jao. Nobody has forced you.”

Years ago, to the tune of what the actresses have said, Aamir Khan had a similar viewpoint on the debate and the total discussion about the boycott culture.

It came following the release of box office hit PK which several fans termed as Hinduphobic to which he responded, “Mujhe lagta hai ki ya ek democracy hai aur haar aadmi ko apna vichar samne rakhna ka adhikaar hai (This is a democracy and everyone should have the right to express their opinion).”

He further added, “If someone doesn’t like the film they can choose not to watch it."

However, the duo of Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan featuring in the lead role of the biggest failure of films among the three Khans, ‘Lal Singh Chadda were seen urging people not to boycott and apologized if they had hurt people’s sentiments. Which was absolutely what they never wanted.

Now with Alia Bhatt making similar remarks on the criticism, she is facing right ahead of the release of her film with hubby Ranbir Kapoor, it will be worth watching how her film which is termed to be one of the biggest motion pictures in India fairs at the box office.

Will it be spared or ‘Brahmastra’ will face the repercussions of the audience’s agony?
