An unknown assailant attacked District Judge Monica Sharma with the intent to kill during her stroll in a park in Amritsar on Thursday evening. She was suddenly put in a chokehold by the assailant, who approached her from behind. She was doing her routine walk in the Rose park, Ranjit Avenue Block when she was attacked.

 

According to sources, she was taking a second round of the park when the assailant came from behind and put his arm around her neck to choke her. In an attempt to free herself from the attacker, she fell on the ground where the assailant continued choking her with the intent to kill. She managed to dissuade the attacker by fighting back and biting him on his arm. She started raising alarm by shouting for help, prompting the attacker to flee the scene.

 

The police promptly arrived on the scen after being informed of the situation. The judge was admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment of her wounds. She fought back against the attacker causing some injury on her person. The police have registered a case of attempted murder against the unknown assailant. The CCTV footage from around the area is being scoured to identify the individual.
