As of now, Bhopal and Indore will get two-women friendly liquor stores while Gwalior and Jabalpur will have one women-friendly theka each. Special care will be taken to ensure that these outlets are stocked up with high-end foreign liquor brands that are loved most by women. However, the local brands, which are unregistered with the state won’t find a place in the store.

“No additional duty would be claimed on these foreign liquor brands as they will be brought after paying the duty from other countries. These shops would open markets for the sale of expensive liquor in the state,” told a government official to the news agency.

Additional Chief Secretary, Commercial Tax Department ICP Keshri said that these shops would have foreign liquor brands that were previously never sold in the state. In order to generate revenue, the state will organize wine festivals in cities like Indore, Bhopal and Gwalior, the official said.

Moreover, a rise of 15 per cent in liquor prices will be seen from April 1 in the state. The government is planning to generate a revenue worth 2000 crore from excise this year.
