'Women in cartoons must wear hijabs': Iran's Supreme leader

Although, it is still obscure whether he will enforce it or not

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran said that women depicted in cartoons must by shown wearing hijabs or head covering.

Reportedly, the Tasnim News Agency of the country asked about covering head by animated female characters on television. Khamenei responded, “observing hijab in animation is required due to the consequences of not wearing hijab.”

Although, it is still obscure whether he will enforce it or not but such comments coming from the supreme leader is a matter of concern.

Censorship is a norm in Tehrain. Scenes that are deemed as immoral are often cut from the films. Even movies are banned if these are found as hostile to Islamic values.

It is mandatory for women in Iran to wear hijab since the Islamic Revolution of 1979. It is enforced by Islamic Religious Police.
