World Pi Day 2022 Date: International or World Pi Day is celebrated every year on 14 March, this day is also the birth anniversary of the great scientist Albert Einstein and the death anniversary of Stephen Hawking.

Along with this, International Mathematics Day is also celebrated on 14 March, which was started by UNESCO in the year 2019.

Pi (π) is a constant and the ratio of the length of the circumference of a circle to the length of its diameter is called pi in mathematical language, the value of pi in circles is 3.141.

And the value of five places after its decimal is 3.14159.
In mathematics, the value of pi is also 22/7, it is an irrational number, which means that the decimals of pi are neither repeated nor never ends.

When and why Pi Day is being celebrated?

In 2009, the United States House of Representatives passed a resolution recognizing March 14 as Pi Day. After this in the year 2019, UNESCO declared Pi Day as International Mathematics Day. Pi Day was first observed in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw.

The date of Pi Day is chosen by Pi itself.  This day is determined based on the value of pi, which is 3.14 (Month/Day Format) i.e. 14th of the third month of the year i.e. 14th March.

Pi Day is celebrated every year on 14 March to make people aware of the contributions of Pi (π) and its importance in the field of mathematics and science.

On this day the great scientist Albert Einstein was born and Prof. Stephen Hawking had died.

  • Pi Approximation Day: Pi Approximation Day is celebrated every year on 22nd July which shows the value of Pi as 22/7.
  •  That is, the 22nd of the seventh month of the year ie 22nd July.

How Pi Day is being celebrated?

Every year World Pi Day is celebrated with great fanfare by mathematicians and physicists from all over the world and some delicious dishes and deals of Pi are also seen.

Google also wishes this special day by making a doodle.

Mathematicians all over the world are remembered on this day and Albert Einstein's birthday is also celebrated with great pomp.

Also on this day the great scientist and astrophysicist Stephen William Hawking is remembered on his death anniversary.

How to remember the value of Pi?

If you want to remember the value of Pi up to 7 decimal places, there is a simple way: The date of Pi Day is March 14, which can also be written as 3/14, from here you get the first digit of the month as 3 and the two digits after the decimal point 14 from the date i.e. '3.14'.

After this, the Pi minute is celebrated at 1:59:26, so if after 3.14 it is placed in 15926, then the value of Pi can be easily remembered up to seven decimal places, which is 3.1415926.

Who discovered Pi and when?

The most important constant and determinant of mathematics, Pi is said to have been first calculated by the famous Greek mathematician Archimedes (287–212 BC).

But some Indian scholars say that Aryabhata, the great mathematician and discoverer of zero, had correctly estimated the value of Pi in the 5th century itself.

The Pi mark (π) was first suggested by William Johns in 1706 AD.

How is the value of Pi determined?

The value of pi can be extracted very easily from a verse of Aryabhatta, he has written this verse in Sanskrit, saying that adds four to 100, multiply by 8 and then add 62,000.

The answer that comes from this calculation is 20000. The diameter of a circle with circumference is. According to him, the ratio of diameter and circumference (2πr/2r) is 3.1416.

Uses of Pi

  • In mathematics, Pi is most commonly used in geometry and trigonometry.
  • To measure the length of a river: The length of a river is curved and curved, its exact length which is measured using Pi.
  • Pyramid size: Pi was used to calculate the size of a pyramid even before the discovery of Pi, and is still used today.
  • Distance between wires: Without it is almost impossible to measure the winding distance between two wires.
  • Earth's shape: Due to Pi, the confusion of those who considered the Earth to be round could be dispelled. When David Spergel, chairman of the Astrophysics Department of Pinstan University, gave information through a calculation that the shape of our Earth is oval.
