Every year on September 10th ‘World Suicide Prevention Day is observed to mark the importance of the need of why we need to talk about such an important issue and how can this be evaded with mutual cooperation and a basic sense of belongingness.
It was back in 2003 when the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization came up with the idea of marking this occasion annually on September 10th.
It is since then to date that government organizations and other social outfits take this as an occasion to make a genuine and noble effort of doing all they can to bring down the cases of suicides through public awareness and messages to people about what can they do to help others.
As per a report, an estimated 7, 03,000 people die by suicide around the world every year. Suicidal behavior and thoughts have a huge societal influence.
Suicide is a manifestation of psychological problems that comes from the undue pressure of multiple factors, including economic, societal, relational, and career-wise.
As per the WHO, suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19 years old, and 77% of suicidal cases globally come from low and middle-class income countries.
Theme:
World Suicide Prevention Day from 2021-2023 will be observed with the theme of "Creating hope through action." The theme projects aim of instilling hope and serve as a reminder that why is it important for us to care about those who are contemplating suicide. With efforts and concern, we can avert this from destroying an individual or a family’s lives.
The theme also projects on the efforts that the country must put ahead in listing suicide prevention as their top priority so that we don’t keep on losing crucial human resources.
It is possible to picture a world where suicides are less common by expanding on this theme and communicating this message over the course of three years.
Building on this theme and spreading this message over the three years, a world can be envisioned where suicides are not so prevalent.
