Worst-hit corona districts of Punjab to observe additional restrictions other than night curfew

The Chief Minister also announced a week-long trial of enforcement of the mandatory mask-wearing rule by making offenders stand at the spot

Punjab Covid-19 Corona-Hotspots

On account of a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in urban areas of the state particularly in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala, CM Capt Amarinder said it is necessary to impose additional restrictions and curtail timings of certain activities in these 3 cities. Accordingly, additional restrictions are imposed as under within municipal limits of these 3 cities with immediate effect from August 8 till further orders:

1) Night Curfew ( 9:00 pm to 5:00 am)

Movement of individuals for all the non-essential activities shall remain prohibited between 9:00 pm to 5:00 am within the municipal limits of these 3 cities. 

However, essential activities including operation of multiple shifts, movement of persons and goods on National and State Highways and unloading of cargo and travel of person to their destinations after disembarking from buses, trains, and airplanes will be permitted. 

Similarly, all industries running into 2-3 shifts will also remain open. 

2) Restriction on Timings: 

*Restaurants, Hotels and other Hospitality Units till 9 pm

*Shops and shopping malls till 8 pm

*Liquor vends till 9 pm

The Chief Minister also announced a week-long trial of enforcement of the mandatory mask-wearing rule by making offenders stand at the spot for an hour with a mask on. He was of the view that making the offenders sweat it out might help check the violations on this count, which had crossed 3.82 lakhs.
