Food delivery giant Zomato has been fined by Greater Chennai Corporation for discarding bags used by its delivery executives on the terrace of its Chetpet office in Chennai.

The food delivery app has been asked to pay Rs 1 lakh for failing to destroy mosquito breeding sources.

During an inspection at Zomato Chetpet office in Chennai on October 18, the health officials said they found food delivery bags discarded across the terrace of the building. They said the bags had stagnant water in them and had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Following this, Zomato was fined Rs 1 lakh by Greater Chennai Corporation as part of its anti-mosquito operation.

Zomato has, meanwhile, acknowledged receiving the challan and has said that they will deposit the fine on October 23.

The Tamil Nadu government has been carrying out inspections across the state to control dengue with over 3,400 cases already been reported from the state.
