Food delivery unicorns Zomato and Swiggy on Wednesday reported a nationwide outage due to a "technical issue".

The customer handle support of both the firms responded to the messages of complaints. Users are unable to place orders or browse menus and listings. Both the companies have a 95 per cent stake in the sector.

The two companies shared a post

Zomato wrote on Twitter, "Hi, we are experiencing a temporary glitch. Please rest assured that our team is working on it and we will be working on it soon.

" Swiggy Cares also said on the microblogging site: "...we are experiencing a temporary technical glitch. Please rest assured that at this time our best minds are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible." Please stay with us till then.

The Competition Commission of India has said that both Zomato and Swiggy

Both are also being investigated for alleged unfair business practices. The order to probe the firms comes months after the National Restaurant Association of India filed a complaint.

However, the firms had reportedly denied the allegation when NRAI filed a complaint with the CCI in July last year.

The allegations against both the companies

NRAI, which represents over 500,000 restaurants across the country, had asked the Competition Commission of India to probe the two companies for allegedly giving priority to certain eateries.

The association has also alleged that both companies offer discounts after charging "excessive commissions" from restaurants.

The CCI said the companies' agreements with restaurants could create "entry barriers to new platforms, without earning any profit to consumers".

Last month, after Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, announced the online food delivery service provider’s plans to deliver food to customers in record 10 minutes.

There was a huge backlash online, with many pointing out that waiting for 30 minutes for good food should not be a problem at all and that the express delivery service puts the safety of delivery agents.

Goyal came out with a detailed clarification the next day, stressing that the safety of delivery agents will remain a priority even with the instant service.
