
TheSouth African woman who claimed of giving birth to 10 babies was not pregnantin the past months, the Gauteng provincial government alleged in a statement.
Accordingto local media, Gosiame Sithole, 37, claimed that she gave birth to 10 babieson June 7 at a local hospital in Gauteng province, reports Xinhua news agency.
"TheGauteng provincial government conducted a thorough check with all hospitals inthe province to establish the veracity or otherwise of reports," thestatement issued on Wednesday said.
"Noneof the hospitals in the province, public and private, had any records of suchbirth at their facilities."
Sitholewas taken to hospital on June 18 where several examinations were conducted.
"Ithas now been established by medical practitioners that Sithole did not givebirth to any babies in recent times.
"Itis also been established that she was not pregnant in recent times,"Gauteng Provincial government spokesperson Thabo Masebe was quoted as saying inthe statement.
Hesaid the government will continue providing medical, psychological and socialsupport to the woman.
The case
Therewere reports that Sithole who was already a mother of 6-year-old twins, wasexpecting six children, and then eight as per doctors. However on June 7 night sheclaimed that she gave birth to ten babies. She gave birth to seven boys andthree girls by Caesarean section.
Arepresentative of the Guinness World Record then said, “Guinness World Recordswas aware of the news that Gosiame Thamara Sithole had given birth todecuplets, and their records team alongside a specialist consultant werelooking into this.”
However,the Guinness World Records team then gave no confirmation over this development,and today Gauteng provincial government has said that it was fake news.
