The video has gone viral on social media in recent days, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to launch an FIR against Twitter India and eight others involved in the case. Since the video went viral, other versions of the story have emerged.
According to The Quint, the Muslim man admitted to being kidnapped and made to chant "Jai Shri Ram." According to the UP police, Saifi was not compelled to scream any slogans during his abduction and beard shaving. On social media, the muted video became viral.
