

Arguably the most-awaited movie of the year Border 2 is all set to be released in theaters on January 23, 2026. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is based on true story of 1971 India-Pakistan war. Termed as India's biggest war drama, Border 2 features multiple big stars like Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Varun Dhawan, Medha Rana and more in the key roles.

According to reports, Punjab served as a crucial military hub for the Indian Army during the 1971 war. Many troops, tanks, artillery units, and logistics were stationed in Punjab before being moved toward the border areas.
For example, on western front, where Pakistani forces launched offensives into Punjab targeting cities like Bhatinda and Ludhiana, Punjab Regiment units heroically defended key positions, contributing to decisive victories.
During the battle of Fazilka, Pakistani forces intruded into Punjab near Ferozepur, attacking Hussainiwala. During that time, 15 Punjab Regiment held their position.
Furthermore, Pakistani I Corps tried cutting Punjab-Jammu lines. However, Indian I Corps repelled them.
Furthermore, the 23 Punjab Regiment's A Company, led by Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, famously defended Longewala (Rajasthan border, near Punjab sector) against a Pakistani brigade, stalling their advance until IAF support arrived.
In Border 2, Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh will be seen portraying the character of Param Vir Chakra awardee- Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon. Hailing from Isewal, a small village in Ludhiana, Flying officer Sekhon showed unparalleled courage when Pakistan launched a sudden attack using six F-86 Sabre jets in 1971.
Despite not receiving formal orders, Sekhon took off and managed to destroy two enemy jets before his own aircraft was hit, leading to his martyrdom.
Furthermore, Sunny Deol plays the character of Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler in Border 2. However, Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler is a fictional character. According to reports, the character of Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler is inspired by real-life Brigadier (later Major General) Hardev Singh Kler.
Major General H.S. Kler, MVC, AVSM is still regarded as one of Indian Army’s best field commanders who became a legend in his lifetime. He led the Indian Army during the in 1965 and 1971.
