Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee plays the character of real life Mumbai Police officer Madhukar Zende. Inspector Madhukar Zende, had arrested Charles Sobhraj on April 6, 1986 in Goa. On the other hand, Jim Sarbh plays the character of Carl Bhojraj. In real life, Carl Bhojraj's name is Charles Sobhraj.
Charles had escaped from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in March 1986 after feeding the guards drug-laced food during a 'party' in the heavily-guarded prison complex. He then chose Goa as his hideout. However, his love for O’Coqueiro restaurant’s telephone service, a highway restaurant in Porvorim in Goa, led to his arrest from the coastal state.
After getting arrested, Charles aka Carl (in the movie) remained in jail and did not scape after that. Charles' sentence in India was extended, and he remained imprisoned in India until 1997 before later being arrested in Nepal in 2003 and released in 2022 to return to France.
Charles remained in Nepal jail for 19 years. Charles also spent 21 years in jail in India.
