A 4-year-old child was allegedly abducted in broad daylight from a street near Leather Complex Road in Jalandhar on Thursday afternoon and the incident falls under the jurisdiction of Basti Bawa Khel Police Station and has led to a police investigation and a city-wide alert.
According to the child’s mother, Shanu, the incident took place at around 1:45 PM in Kunj Gali, she said her child was playing in the street when two youths arrived on an Activa scooter, took the child and fled from the area.
As per the information provided by locals, the two youths allegedly fled towards Raj Nagar after taking the child, Goldy, who shared details about the incident, said several children were playing in the street at the time.
Following the incident, the child's mother was left distressed, while local residents gathered at the spot and police were informed about the matter and reached the area to begin the investigation.
Police are currently examining CCTV cameras installed near the location to trace the movements of the suspected youths and the Activa scooter and the investigating officer said that the initial CCTV footage checked by the police did not clearly capture the incident. Officials are now examining footage from other cameras installed in the surrounding area.
Another child, identified as Krish, also provided information to the police and he reportedly told officials that two youths riding an Activa had taken his friend.
Police have alerted the control room regarding the incident, following which an alert has been issued across the city and CCTV footage from different locations is being checked as part of the search.
At present, police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact sequence of events and trace the child and the two youths and further details are awaited as the CCTV footage from additional locations is examined.
