

In a major development, Punjab Government on Monday formed a six member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case of 328 missing Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
The SIT will be headed by AIG Vigilance Jagatpreet Singh and the investigation will be supervised by Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
For the unversed, the case of 328 missing Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji had been lying dormant for nearly nine and a half years in Punjab’s political landscape.
However, the Bhagwant Mann Government reopened the case in early December 2025.
The mysterious disappearance of 328 sacred copies of Shri Guru Granth Sahib, first uncovered in 2016. However, no FIR was filed during that time.
For the first time, CM Bhagwant Mann has initiated legal action by registering an FIR against 16 SGPC employees. This move honors religious sentiments and marks a historic step towards restoring public trust in Punjab’s justice system.
Those booked have been identified as Dr Roop Singh, Manjit Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Satinder Singh, Nishan Singh, Paramjit Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Jujhar Singh, Baaj Singh, Dalbir Singh, Kamaljit Singh, Kulwant Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Satinder Singh and Amarjit Singh.
The FIR has been registered under sections 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship or sacred object with intent to insult a religion), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 409 (criminal breach of trust), 465 (forgery) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Division-C Amritsar Commissionerate.
