
Multiple districts of Punjab have been witnessing flood. Due to incessant rain in Himachal Pradesh, the water level in the bordering districts of Punjab have been rising above the danger level.
Although IMD Chandigarh has issued no rain alert in Punjab on Tuesday, light or normal rain may occur in some areas and the weather will remain almost the same for the next four days. However, it is expected that the situation will change again from August 23 and the monsoon will be active once again.
Meanwhile, seven districts of Punjab are witnessing floods. The water level of Pong Dam has gone above the danger mark, due to which water is being released continuously from there. As per reports, on Tuesday morning the water level of Pong Dam reached 1383 feet, while the danger level is 1380 feet. The full capacity of Pong Dam is 1410 feet.
Recently about 1.30 lakh cusecs of water was released. Due to this, the water level of Beas river is expected to increase further today. Its effect will be more visible in districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar and Tarn Taran.
Currently, Sultanpur Lodhi and Tarn Taran are already affected by floods. Water is also being released from Harike Heads of Tarn Taran, due to which the effect has reached Fazilka district. If the water level of Beas river increases further, many villages of Amritsar can also be submerged.
The water level of Bhakra Dam is also continuously rising. The water level of Bhakra is also 15 feet below the danger mark. The water level in Bhakra Dam was recorded at 1665 feet in the morning. At the same time, the water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam has been recorded at 1715 feet, which is about 15 feet below the danger mark of 1730 feet.
If it continues to rain in Himachal in the coming days, then problems may intensify in Punjab.
As per reports, like July, the state has witnessed 18 percent less rain in the month of August. According to the Meteorological Department, the state usually receives 98.7 mm of rain in the month of August, while this month only 81 percent rain has been seen in the state.
