AAP protests outside Bajwa’s house over mockery of Dalits, workers
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab staged a protest in Chandigarh today against the alleged distasteful statements made by Congress party leader Partap Singh Bajwa against the AAP Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO. The protest was led by AAP leaders Harpal Singh Cheema, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Dr. Balbir Singh along with other party leaders and workers who surrounded Partap Bajwa’s residence and demonstrated their irk with drums and bands.
The police deployed water cannons on the protesters, lathi charged them and also erected barricades outside the Sector 4 MLA hostel, however the protesters continued to advance towards Partap Singh Bajwa’s residence. Following this a confrontation ensued between the police and the protesters. The AAP has claimed that they would not compromise with the respect of the Dalit community. The party leaders demonstrated a fierce protest expressing their anger against the derogatory comments made by the Congress leader and have demanded an immediate apology from Congress.
Exposing real thinking of Congress, says Harpal Cheema
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema says that he strongly condemns the derogatory remarks made by Partap Singh Bajwa and Raja Warring against his cabinet colleague Harbhajan Singh ETO. Cheema claims that such statements made by these Congress leaders expose their real thinking and uncover their true colors in front of the public. Cheema asserts that this protest is to demand an answer and an apology to the public, or else more strict steps would be taken in this regard. The Cabinet Minister says that Harbhajan Singh ETO passed the civil service examination with hard work and then became an ETO. He questions whether Partap Singh Bajwa even fulfils basic qualification for this examination. He also claims that today the youth from ordinary families of Punjab have reached the State Vidhan Sabha, which he mentions is not digestible to the other political parties of the state. He says that the Congress party believes that common people can never come forward.
