AAP Punjab president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Wednesday questioned the BJP’s ongoing anti-drug campaign in Punjab, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally in Jalandhar at the conclusion of the party’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’.
Arora questions BJP
Arora questioned the BJP over the transfer of former Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Niranjan Singh during the investigation into the Jagdish Bhola drug case and asked why Singh was transferred from Jalandhar to Kolkata in January 2015, after he had questioned former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia in December 2014.
Talks about the Bhola drug case
Records show that Niranjan Singh was the investigating officer in the Bhola drug case and was transferred to Kolkata on January 16, 2015. The Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed the transfer shortly afterwards, and Singh continued with the investigation.
2007-2017 timeline
Arora said the BJP also needs to explain the source of drugs entering Punjab and alleged that the state is being blamed for drugs supplied from outside and claimed that the word ‘Chitta’ came into common circulation in Punjab during the 2007-2017 period and alleged that drugs reached households during the Akali-BJP government.
Questions BJP’s campaign
He further accused the BJP of supporting drug peddlers during that period and described Amit Shah’s anti-drug campaign as a “sham”. These are political allegations made by Arora.
BJP’s nasha mukt yatra
The BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ began on September 18 and covered all 117 Assembly constituencies over nearly 4,000 km and the campaign concluded in Jalandhar with Amit Shah’s rally on Wednesday.
