

On the instructions of Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and Commissioner of Police, Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar the authorities are working day and night to get rid of the drug menace that has gripped the region. The police forces are working towards eradicating the drug problem from its root and nab gangsters. In accordance with this mission a surprise operation was conducted in Central Jail Fatehpur, Amritsar in collaboration with local police and the jail department.
This surprise operation was held under the supervision of DCP Law and Order, Amritsar Alam Vijay Singh and ADCP City 1, Amritsar Vishaljit Singh along with other officers and employees of the local police force and jail department. As per reports, different teams of police personal were formed to check and track the activities of the prisoners and detainees who have been lodged in the jail. A very through search was carried out in the jail barracks and the surrounding areas. Along with this the areas around the boundary wall outside the jail were also thoroughly searched. Apart from this, DCP Law and Order, Amritsar Alam Vijay Singh, ACP East, Amritsar Shivdarshan Singh and (Probationer) ACP Paras Garg along with the personnel of Local Force and Special Commando, conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Guru Ki Wadali area that falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Chheharta.
During this search operation, the area was cordoned off from all sides and special roadblocks were set up inside and outside the area and a through checking was done. Over 50 residents including the residences of those who have come out on bail in criminal offenses were searched. Detailed information was collected about their current activities. Around 53 vehicles were also ascertained by verifying their registration numbers.
After the operation around 10 suspects were rounded up for questioning and four persons have been booked under the NDPS Act.
During the search, the police interacted with the people of the area and held discussions with them and appealed that if any person is involved in drug smuggling or any other illegal activity in their area, then that information must be given to the police immediately. The police have also assured that the names of these people would be kept confidential so that they do not have to worry about anything before coming forward. The police assured that they are on duty 24x7 to maintain peace and security in the region.
