A CCTV video has surfaced in the case of the Amritsar woman accused of burning her boyfriend alive, showing that she had allegedly visited his house three days before the incident with the intention of harming him.
According to the victim's family, the woman arrived carrying petrol and told them it was meant to be donated at a gurdwara. The family has now shared the CCTV footage from that day.
CCTV Footage
The footage shows the woman sitting inside a photocopy shop near the victim's house. In the video, the victim can be seen folding his hands and pleading with her, while she sits casually with one leg resting on the counter, repeatedly pointing her finger at him in what the family claims were threatening gestures. After nearly ten minutes, she left the spot.
Actual incident on 15th July
Three days later, on July 15, the woman allegedly called the victim to her house. Police say an argument broke out, after which she, along with her cousin, tied the man up, poured petrol on him and set him on fire. They later informed police that it was a case of suicide. Police have since registered a case against four people, including the woman and her cousin, and arrested them.
Victim's Brother Shares Details
The victim's younger brother, Mandeep Singh, a resident of Bal Khurd village, said his brother Sandeep Singh had been married only two months ago.
He alleged that on the morning of July 12, the accused woman came to their house carrying petrol. She claimed she had some work with Sandeep but instead threatened to kill him and abused him before leaving.
According to Mandeep, on July 15 at around 12:30 PM, Sandeep received a phone call from the same woman and left home. When he did not return, Mandeep called him around 3 PM, but the phone was answered by a police officer, who asked the family to come to the police station. They were allegedly kept there until around 4:30 PM before being informed that Sandeep had died in a fire and that the case was being treated as suicide.
Family Alleges Murder
Mandeep rejected the suicide theory, claiming that when the family reached the scene, there was no petrol spilled outside the house. He alleged that Sandeep's motorcycle was parked inside and that he had been tied up before being set on fire.
He also claimed his brother had injury marks on his head, suggesting he had been assaulted before being burned.
Woman Claimed Petrol Was for Donation
Mandeep said the woman arrested in the case was the same person who had visited their house on July 12 carrying petrol in a water cooler container. She allegedly told the family that she regularly performed service at Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib and that the petrol was meant to be donated there. She explained the smell by saying the container's tap had broken, causing the petrol to leak. At the time, the family did not suspect anything.
The victim's brother now believes the woman blackmailed Sandeep into coming to her house and then murdered him. He insisted that his brother could not have taken his own life, especially just two months after getting married. According to him, Sandeep may have gone to meet the woman only to resolve the matter and stop her from harassing him.
Village Sarpanch Raises Doubts
Village Sarpanch Jaswinder Singh, who accompanied the family to the scene, said he noticed plastic ropes lying near the body. He believes Sandeep was tied up before being set on fire.
He further alleged that after the ropes melted in the flames, Sandeep tried to free himself, during which he was attacked with sharp weapons. According to the Sarpanch, injury marks on Sandeep's head support this theory. He also suggested that the accused woman and her cousin may have suffered burn injuries while Sandeep struggled to save himself.
Police Version
Majitha SHO Karam Pal Singh said the accused woman, Rajwinder Kaur, was already acquainted with Sandeep and the two had previously been in a relationship. They had also worked together in the past.
Police said Rajwinder came to know about Sandeep's marriage, which had taken place about two months earlier. She then allegedly called him to her house in Majitha. After an argument broke out, Rajwinder, along with her family members, allegedly poured petrol on Sandeep.
According to the SHO, Rajwinder Kaur and her cousin Harpal Singh then set Sandeep on fire in a fit of rage. Police have registered a case against four accused and arrested all of them. Investigations are ongoing.
