Announcement of ‘Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna’ on Women’s Day a historic step: Nitin Kohli
Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Jalandhar Central constituency in-charge Nitin Kohli welcomed the Punjab Government’s Budget for 2026–27, stating that the announcement of the “Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna” on the occasion of International Women’s Day is a historic initiative aimed at strengthening the dignity and financial empowerment of women.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Government has taken a significant step toward empowering women through this scheme. Under the initiative, women in Punjab will receive ₹1,000 per month, while women belonging to the Scheduled Caste community will receive ₹1,500 per month, which will be directly transferred to their bank accounts. Nitin Kohli said the scheme will provide financial strength to lakhs of women and improve the economic stability of families across the state.
Kohli said that this Women’s Day budget is a major gift for women in Punjab. He added that the government has also strengthened several schemes focused on the welfare of women. An allocation of ₹600 crore has been made to continue free bus travel for women, while ₹932 crore has been earmarked for more than 27,000 Anganwadi Centres under the Integrated Child Development Services programme. He also appreciated the Navi Disha Scheme, under which free sanitary pads will be provided to needy women and adolescent girls.
He further said that the budget has given strong priority to education, healthcare and social welfare. He highlighted that ₹19,279 crore has been allocated for the education sector under the “Sikhiya Kranti 2.0” initiative, while ₹6,879 crore has been earmarked for healthcare services. The government has also strengthened the Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana, which provides cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh for families.
Nitin Kohli added that farmers and rural development have also received significant focus in the budget. ₹15,377 crore has been allocated for agriculture and allied sectors, ₹7,715 crore for free power to farmers, and ₹7,606 crore for rural road development, which will further strengthen rural infrastructure in Punjab.
He said that to encourage youth participation in sports, the government has allocated ₹1,791 crore for sports infrastructure, including plans to develop 6,000 new village playgrounds and 5,000 indoor gyms, creating new opportunities for the youth.
Kohli said the budget reflects the Aam Aadmi Party government’s commitment to fulfilling the guarantees made to the people of Punjab. He congratulated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for presenting a people-centric budget focused on welfare and development.
Special function organised at office on Women’s Day
On this occasion, a special function was also organised today at Nitin Kohli’s office in Jalandhar Central to mark International Women’s Day and celebrate the announcement of the “Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna.” A large number of women participated in the event and expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government for the initiative. Nitin Kohli extended his Women’s Day greetings to the participants and said that the scheme would prove to be a milestone in strengthening the dignity, security and economic independence of women.
