An incident of armed robbery has been reported in Gurdaspur where robbers looted nearly Rs 3 crore in cash and jewellery from a residence. According to the family, five men dressed as Nihang Singhs arrived at the house around 8 am. At the time, the family’s driver, Sarabjit Singh, was cleaning vehicles outside. The suspects engaged him in conversation and entered the house when he went inside to inform the family.

The jeweller’s wife, Neha Mahajan, said the accused claimed that the family had posted objectionable content about their religious gurus on social media. Shortly after, two of the men pointed a pistol at her head and gathered all family members in one place.

The robbers then confined the family members in separate rooms. The driver was locked in one room, Neha Mahajan and her two children — Krish and Shikhar — in another, while jeweller Varun Mahajan was locked in a separate room. The accused allegedly took all house keys and threatened to kill the children.

The robbers decamped with gold jewellery and cash. Before fleeing, they also took away the DVR of the CCTV cameras and escaped in the family’s car. The total value of the loot is estimated at around Rs 3 crore.

The incident took place in the 5 Number Scheme area on Jail Road.

DSP Tarjinder Singh said police reached the spot immediately after receiving information and have launched an investigation. He confirmed that five armed men disguised as Nihang Singhs carried out the robbery. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and police have assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
