Head of the Nanaksar Sect Baba Lakha Singh Ji on Tuesday called on CM Bhagwant Singh Mann in Chandigarh and hailed the Punjab Government for passing the historic ‘Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026’, saying the legislation will assuage the sentiments of the Sikh community and help check incidents of Beadbi. Baba Lakha Singh Ji blessed CM Bhagwant Singh Mann with a Siropa from Guru Ghar, while the Chief Minister said that upholding the honour, sanctity and maryada of Shabad Guru Sahib, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, is the foremost duty of his government and that he considers this service a blessing entrusted to him by Waheguru.
During this, Head of Nanaksar Sect Baba Lakha Singh Ji said, “The passing of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act, 2026, is a path-breaking initiative which has assuaged the sentiments of the entire Sikh community, which was deeply hurt by repeated incidents of desecration. This legislation reflects the commitment of the Punjab Government towards protecting the honour and sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.”
“The government has taken an important step by strengthening the law against incidents of Beadbi. Such legislation will help uphold the sanctity of Shabad Guru and instil greater confidence among the Sikh community that such incidents will be dealt with firmly,” he said.
Baba Lakha Singh Ji presented a Siropa to CM Bhagwant Singh Mann as a mark of honour and respect for his service to humanity in general and the Sikh Panth in particular.
Meanwhile,CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to Baba Ji for showering his blessings on me. It is the foremost duty of the State Government to uphold the honour, respect and sanctity of Shabad Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.”
“Our Government is fully committed to treading the path shown by the great Gurus for the progress of Punjab and prosperity of its people. We are working continuously to maintain peace, amity and harmony in the State and to further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony,” said the Chief Minister.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Wahrguru has bestowed upon me the opportunity to serve humanity by enacting the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act, 2026, which provides for harsher punishment for Beadbi. I hope this Act will act as a deterrent against such unfortunate incidents in the future and that no one will dare to indulge in this crime.”
“I am nobody to claim that I have passed this Act. This service has been taken from me by Guru Sahib, who is omnipotent and omnipresent. God takes such service from the person chosen by Him, and I consider myself a humble servant of Guru Sahib who has been assigned this task,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted, “Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is like a father to every Sikh and it is our duty to ensure its sanctity. If the State Government cannot ensure the honour and sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, then no one else will fall in line. We are therefore duty-bound to take every possible step to protect the sanctity of Shabad Guru Sahib.”
“We are fortunate that this responsibility of passing such a historic Act has been entrusted to the State Government. I firmly hope that this legislation will act as a strong deterrent and put an end to such incidents in the future,” he said.
