Three years after the unfortunate murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, iconic singer Babbu Mann has broke his long silence for the first time. Speaking in a recent performance at Vancouver, Canada, where initial resistance gave way to a smash hit, Babbu Mann referred indirectly to the traumatic episode while not referring directly to Sidhu Moosewala. He had stated, "Someone's fight continued to go around other agencies like ours. I kept roaming around police stations for six months with my certificate of honor," while pointing to the lengthy police questioning and trial by media he had undergone after the murder.
Sidhu Moosewala, 28 years old, was brutally shot 19 times in his Mahindra Thar at Jawaharke village, Mansa district, Punjab. The event left everyone in shock and outrage all over Punjab. Punjab Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigated the death of Moosewala and interrogated several individuals including Babbu Mann. Babbu Mann was questioned about his connection with Moosewala and whether there was any controversy surrounding him on December 7, 2022.
SIT later exonerated him of any role, saying that there was no direct or indirect link between Babbu Mann and the murder.
After the murder, Babbu Mann's security was increased in view of threats and intelligence reports suggesting danger to him. Although rumors of artistic competition and social media controversies between Sidhu Musewala and Babbu Mann have been reported, any criminal motives were ever established.
Babbu Mann had remained quiet about the case till now, in his Canada tour where he had also criticized the media for trying a case by public opinion and not facts.
This admission is timely as the Punjabi music world and the people remain in search of closure on one of its darkest moments. Babbu Mann's admission is a significant moment, combining personal exoneration with a plea to put behind the traumatic scandal of the murder of Sidhu Musewala.
