Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary and Organisational In-charge of Punjab, Dr. Satish Poonia, today said that the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own strength and that strengthening the party organisation at the grassroots level would be his primary responsibility ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Flanked by State President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon, Co- Incharge BJP Punjab & MLA Dr Narinder Singh Raina addressing his first press conference after his appointment as the BJP’s organisational in-charge for Punjab, Dr. Poonia said that his immediate focus would be on understanding the organisation in Punjab, reviewing its functioning and further strengthening the party structure from the booth level to the state level. Meetings with the BJP core committee, office-bearers, district presidents and district in-charges will form part of his initial organisational programme.
BJP to Launch ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’
Dr. Poonia announced that the BJP’s ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ would be organised from September 17 to October 17 across the country, including Punjab.
He said the campaign would not merely be a celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, but would focus on social service and public welfare. The programme has been conceived around the Prime Minister’s broader vision that politics should not be restricted to slogans but should also be rooted in social responsibility.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years in public executive office on October 7, 2026, having taken oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and subsequently served as the country’s Prime Minister for over 12 years.
Dr. Poonia said the month-long campaign would include programmes relating to cleanliness, women empowerment, youth, innovation and other social causes. Programmes will be organised at the booth, circle, district and state levels.
He said he had specifically come to Punjab to prepare the organisational machinery for the campaign and ensure its effective implementation across the state.
“Work for the Worker and Work Through the Worker”
Dr. Poonia said the BJP’s strength lies in its cadre and that the party’s endeavour would remain to keep workers at the centre of organisational activities.
He said, “There are limited organisational positions and limited tickets for elections, but the party has always made efforts to give due respect and responsibility to its workers. Those who remain continuously connected with the party and work with commitment are certainly recognised by the organisation.”
At the same time, he appealed to party workers to maintain discipline and express their views within the framework of the party’s organisational values and discipline.
He said the BJP is a cadre-based organisation and that discipline, organisational commitment and collective effort would be essential to achieving the objective of Mission Punjab 2027.
BJP to Fight Punjab Elections on Its Own Strength
Responding to questions about a possible alliance, Dr. Poonia made the BJP’s position clear, saying that he was conveying the direct message of the central leadership that the BJP will contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab on its own strength.
He clarified that political leaders meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not automatically be interpreted as an indication of an alliance or political arrangement.
“I am the ambassador of the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and its clear message is that we will contest all 117 seats on our own strength. A meeting does not mean an alliance. In a democracy, people and political leaders can meet the Prime Minister to discuss various issues. It should not be interpreted as an indication of any political understanding,” Dr. Poonia said.
Focus on Organisation, Public Issues and 2027
Dr. Poonia said that over the coming days he would hold detailed organisational meetings in Jalandhar with state office-bearers, district presidents and district in-charges and interact with leaders and workers to understand the party’s strengths, challenges and priorities.
He said that the BJP would systematically review the organisation, strengthen its grassroots presence and prepare a comprehensive roadmap for the 2027 Assembly elections.
“The first factor for Mission Punjab is a strong organisation. My priority is to strengthen that organisation, take it to every booth and prepare the party for the political challenges ahead,” he said.
Dr. Poonia concluded by saying that his role as organisational in-charge would primarily involve strengthening the party from behind the scenes, while maintaining regular interaction with BJP leaders, workers and the media as required by the organisation.
