Black Thar Allegedly Waited for Victims
A new development has emerged in the case involving two brothers from Darwa who were allegedly run over by vehicles in Chandigarh, with CCTV footage suggesting that the incident may have been a planned attack rather than a road accident.
According to the investigation, a black Thar was allegedly parked along the roadside and appeared to be waiting for 26-year-old Pawan to arrive.
As Pawan, his younger brother Suraj and their friends passed through the area on Saturday night, the Thar allegedly accelerated towards them and struck both brothers.
Suraj was thrown to one side, while Pawan fell onto the road. Seconds later, a second white vehicle allegedly arrived from behind and ran over Pawan, resulting in his death. Suraj sustained serious injuries.
CCTV Captured the Entire Incident
CCTV footage obtained by police reportedly captured the sequence of events. The footage shows Pawan, Suraj and their companions walking along the road, with two young children passing through the area shortly before the attack.
The black Thar can allegedly be seen waiting on the roadside before suddenly accelerating towards the brothers.
The second vehicle then allegedly ran over Pawan after he had fallen onto the road.
Police Initially Treated It as a Road Accident
Despite having access to the CCTV footage, police initially investigated the incident as a routine road accident.
The police control room had also received information about an accident from the hospital. However, Pawan's friends later informed the police that they believed the incident was not accidental but a deliberate attack.
Following this, investigators examined the crime scene, where blood stains and tyre marks were reportedly found. Mobile forensic experts and a CFSL team from Sector 36 were also called in to collect evidence.
Brothers Allegedly Received Threats
Police suspect that the incident may be linked to an existing rivalry between the brothers and some youths from Indira Colony.
According to police, the two brothers had allegedly been receiving threats through social media. Investigators also said the accused had allegedly called Pawan and Suraj to Darwa on Saturday night.
The brothers reportedly arrived with their friends Raj, Saurav and Rahul before the alleged attack took place.
Six Named Accused, Others Booked
Based on Suraj's statement, Industrial Area police have registered a case of murder and attempt to murder against Govind, Suraj alias Jatva, Subhash, Monu alias Kandu, Mahavir and Malkit alias Kaka, along with other accused.
Police have so far been unable to arrest the accused, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Family Protests Over Police Handling
Following Pawan's death, his family and others staged a protest against the police on Sunday.
The family reportedly refused to allow the post-mortem initially and questioned why the police continued to treat the incident as an accident despite allegedly having CCTV footage showing the vehicles striking the brothers.
They also questioned the delay in registering the case as an alleged deliberate attack.
DSP P. Abhinandan and other police officials reached the spot and attempted to pacify the protesters.
Questions Now Shift to Police Investigation
With CCTV footage, forensic evidence and allegations of prior threats forming part of the investigation, the case has raised serious questions about whether the attack was pre-planned and whether the initial police response delayed the murder investigation.
The immediate focus is now on identifying and arresting the accused and establishing the sequence of events that led to Pawan's death and Suraj's serious injuries.
