As per the latest reports a new bomb threat email was received at the Punjab Secretariat and some private schools in Sector 38, Chandigarh, today (Thursday). Following which the authorities took immediate action and initiated an investigation.
According to reports, the schools that received the threat include Banyan Tree School, Saupin’s School, Kundan International School, and Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh. The email said that a bomb blast would occur at 1:11 PM in the above-mentioned schools, followed by another blast at 3:11 PM at the Punjab Secretariat. The email also mentions Hardeep Nijjar and said that they would deliver him justice.
In a separate incident, bomb threat emails were reported in Amritsar as well. An email threatening to blow up schools in the city was received. Among those who received this bomb threat email were - DPS Amritsar, BDS School Amritsar, Meritorious School Amritsar. This email also follows the pattern of the one received in Chandigarh and warns of a blast in the above-mentioned schools at 1:11 PM, followed by another blast in Shatabadi Express at 3:11 PM.
The police and security forces took immediate action as soon as the email appeared. The search operation began, and security was beefed up.
This is not the first time that such threat emails have come to light in Punjab and Chandigarh. There have been instances of such events in the past in cities such as Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur etc where schools and other public bodies had received hoax bomb threats. In most cases, extensive search operations were conducted by the police, and nothing was found to be suspicious.
