Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has written a letter to the British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh. In his letter to Alba Smereglio, CM Mann sought access to original archival audio and video recordings related to the trial proceedings of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar and Shaheed Shivaram Hari Rajguru.
CM Mann's letter outlines that original audio, video recordings and archival documentation pertaining to the trial proceedings of India's freedom fighters are presently held by concerned authorities in Scotland. The archives are reportedly preserved within a museum, institution maintaining historical legal archives of that era.
CM Mann's letter reads, "These records hold profound historical and emotional significance for the people of Punjab, as well as for global scholars of history and human rights."
"The Government of Punjab seeks access to these archival materials for academic study, digital preservation, and public exhibition at the "Shaheed Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex," Khatkar Kalan, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Punjab, India."
CM Mann further requested the British authorities to facilitate access to the archival material or provide guidance on the formal procedure required to obtain copies for preservation and display purposes.
He added that an early and positive consideration of the request would be highly appreciated and would be remembered as a meaningful step towards honouring shared history and the universal ideals of justice, sacrifice and human dignity.
