An encounter took place at Shahpur, Jalandhar. A suspected shooter was injured and arrested after an encounter with the CIA Staff in Shahpur village of Jalandhar. The exchange of fire took place during an operation launched by the police based on a tip off.
Identification of the accused
The accused has been identified as Yod Singh Yoda alias Labbu, a resident of Shahkot. During the encounter, the police attacked in defence after the accused allegedly opened fire on the team. In the retaliatory firing, Labbu had a bullet injury to his leg and was held by the police.
Special tip off
According to preliminary information, the police had received a tip-off that the accused was hiding in the Shahpur area. Confirming the development, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh said the CIA Staff had laid a checkpoint after receiving specific intelligence about the accused's movement in the area. However, as the police team approached, the accused allegedly fired at them, prompting the police to respond. After the exchange of fire, the accused was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital under police security for medical treatment.
Allegations on the accused
Police Commissioner Satinder Singh revealed that Labbu was allegedly involved in the firing incident outside Vardaan Hospital in Jalandhar around two to three months ago. During the operation, police recovered the pistol allegedly used by the accused along with the helmet he was wearing at the time of the encounter. Initial investigation has also revealed that the accused had allegedly been making extortion calls to several doctors over the past few days, demanding money. Police suspect that he contacted medical professionals and demanded money while allegedly threatening them with serious consequences if they failed to comply.
Preliminary investigation
Preliminary investigation has further revealed that the accused is allegedly involved in criminal activities not only in Jalandhar but also in Moga, Mohali, and other districts of Punjab. He was reportedly wanted in multiple cases registered by different police units.
Person behind the criminal network
According to the police, Labbu admitted during initial questioning that he had allegedly opened fire outside Vardaan Hospital on the instructions of gangster Lucky Patial. Investigators are now working to identify and arrest his associates. Police said the accused has disclosed information about two to three individuals who allegedly handled the financial transactions related to the criminal operations.
Reasons of the firing
The Police Commissioner also said the main conspirator in the Vardaan Hospital firing case is a Canada-based accused who allegedly had a personal dispute with the hospital management. Police suspect that the accused arranged the attack by paying money to carry out the firing. The alleged mastermind has been declared a proclaimed offender, and legal proceedings are underway against him.
Extortion involved
Investigators believe that extortion worth several lakhs was allegedly demanded in connection with the hospital case. Police will now question Labbu further to determine how much money he received for carrying out the attack and to uncover the complete network involved in the conspiracy.
