Punjabi singer Harinder Pal Singh Nijjar is facing an FIR after a social media post related to a song shoot at DAV College, Jalandhar allegedly showed weapons being displayed.
The matter has now also been raised with higher education authorities, with a formal complaint seeking an administrative inquiry into how the commercial shoot was permitted on the college campus.
What happened at DAV College?
According to the complaint submitted by Prof. Mandeep Singh, a commercial song and video shoot was permitted on the DAV College campus during the second week of September 2026.
The complaint alleges that several firearms were openly displayed and brandished during the shoot. It refers to material broadcast by Hulchul TV on September 14 as well as video clips circulating on social media.
The complaint describes the alleged weapon display as a matter concerning the academic environment and student safety.
What has been alleged in the complaint?
Prof. Mandeep Singh has asked authorities to examine the process through which the college allowed the shoot.
The complaint seeks verification of:
Who granted permission for the shoot
Whether any payment or rental amount was involved
Whether police permission was obtained
Whether the weapons were verified
Whether the weapons shown were real firearms or replicas
The complaint also asks authorities to examine the relevant records and determine whether the required permissions and safety procedures were followed.
Which authorities have been approached?
The complaint has reportedly been sent to the Punjab Higher Education Department, DPI Colleges, Guru Nanak Dev University, College Development Council, DAV College Managing Committee, UGC and the district administration.
The complainant has sought a show-cause notice against the college management and the formation of a higher-level fact-finding committee.
What action has Jalandhar Police taken?
Separately, Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has taken cognizance of a social media post related to the matter.
ADCP-1 Jalandhar Mukhtiar Rai said the post showed Punjabi singer Harinder Pal Singh Nijjar and his associates allegedly displaying weapons while shooting a song at a private college.
Police have registered FIR No. 304/2026 at Police Station Division No. 1, Jalandhar, under Sections 223 and 190 of the BNS and Sections 25–30 of the Arms Act.
Police said further legal action is being taken according to law and warned that anyone found openly displaying weapons in violation of legal provisions would face action.
