A daylight robbery took place near the Faridpur stop on Kishangarh-Kartarpur road in Jalandhar. Jyoti Rani a resident of Kapurthala was riding an Activa to visit her relatives in Dugri village when two bike-borne robbers started to tail her. Jyoti grew suspicious and parked her Activa at the Faridpur stop and went into a nearby shop. This is when one of the robbers attempted to snatch her purse, the woman resisted but failed as the robbers attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon.
It is noteworthy that despite being injured, Jyoti displayed courage and caught hold of the robber’s motorcycle, however the accused fled with her purse at gunpoint.
Reportedly, the woman’s purse contained approximately 20,000 rupees worth of foreign currency, her passport and other important documents. As per reports the people present at the scene remained spectators and no one steeped forward to help the woman. ASI Rajendra Sharma, in-charge of the Kishangarh Police Post says that the CCTV footage is being examined and efforts are underway to identify and nab the accused.
