Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal has asked the administration teams to verify an unusual entry in the electoral rolls that shows seven voters registered at “House No. 0” in Defence Colony. The matter came to light when Punjab Youth Congress secretary Angad Dutta flagged the anomaly while checking the voter list of his own colony.

Confirming the development, DC Aggarwal said he has sought a preliminary report from the field teams. “If any discrepancy is found, an official inquiry will be marked. It could well be a clerical error, which is why the teams have been asked to check with the residents and submit their findings,” he said.

Dutta said he was stunned when he stumbled upon the entry. “At first, I thought it was a mistake. But after checking further and speaking to neighbours, it was clear that no such house exists in Defence Colony. Yet, seven names are recorded at this address. This is nothing less than manipulation of voter rolls, and such fake entries are an attack on democratic rights,” he said.

The copy of the voter list downloaded from the ECI portal shows the names registered at the non-existent house as Iqbal Singh (60), Ajit Kumar Yadav (53), Amarjit Singh (52), Meena Yadav (51), Nirmal Singh (50), Umesh Tiwari (37), and Rohit Lugun (51). All appeared unrelated, with Ajit Kumar Yadav listed as the son of Dalip Singh.

Dutta said the verification drive was being carried out as per the directions of national in-charge Krishna Allavaru, national president Uday Bhanu Chib, and Punjab in-charge Dr Smruti Ranjan Lenka. He urged citizens and Youth Congress leaders to cross-check voter lists in their areas and report discrepancies on votechoriroko.in, a platform launched by Rahul Gandhi to fight voter fraud.

The Punjab Youth Congress has also announced awareness campaigns, protests and signature drives to expose irregularities in voter rolls. “We must come together to stop vote theft and protect the sanctity of democracy,” Dutta added.
