Delhi Police has recommended enhanced security arrangements for Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with between 1,500 and 2,000 private security guards expected to be deployed, according to media reports. The arrangements aim to manage the anticipated crowd, ensure public safety and prevent traffic congestion around the venue.
Security deployment increased ahead of concert
According to reports, Delhi Police recommended deploying 1,500–2,000 private guards, compared with the 400 initially proposed by the organisers. The additional personnel are expected to manage queues, guide concertgoers towards designated entry gates, assist visitors at help kiosks and maintain orderly pedestrian movement.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has a reported capacity of approximately 55,000 people, making crowd management a key part of the security arrangements
700-metre no-car zone planned around stadium
Police are planning vehicle restrictions within a 500–700-metre radius of the stadium, creating a largely pedestrian-only zone around the venue. Only vehicles carrying the artiste and those with specific event authorisation would be permitted inside the restricted area, according to reports.
Organisers have also been asked to arrange additional parking facilities and coordinate with cab aggregators and navigation platforms to manage pick-ups and drop-offs and minimise traffic congestion.
A proposal to extend the performance ramp, allowing Dosanjh to move closer to the audience, is also reportedly under consideration. The proposal remains subject to final security approval.
Delhi Police had initially withheld permission
The enhanced arrangements follow Delhi Police’s initial decision to withhold permission for the October 30 concert, citing specific threat-related inputs and security and law-and-order commitments during the festive season.
The decision raised uncertainty over the Delhi leg of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour. However, the organisers subsequently met police officials and submitted a revised security plan addressing concerns regarding safety, traffic and crowd management.
Concert cleared after discussions with organisers
BookMyShow Live clarified that the concert had not been cancelled and that permission had initially been withheld temporarily. Following discussions with Delhi Police and the submission of revised arrangements, permission was reconsidered and issued, allowing the event to proceed as scheduled.
The October 30 performance at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will mark the beginning of the India leg of Dosanjh’s Aura Tour.
