Punjab’s Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, NRI Affairs and Jails, Dr. Ravjot Singh, today undertook a special visit to Central Jail Patiala, where he conducted a comprehensive review of the jail’s administration and facilities.

During the visit, the Minister inaugurated the “Ujala Nursery” and a newly established jail library. He stated that the nursery aims to foster environmental awareness among inmates while encouraging their participation in constructive and creative activities. The new library, he added, will serve as a valuable resource for inmates, providing access to education and information and helping them bring positive changes in their lives.

Highlighting the government’s vision, the Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab is committed to transforming jails into centres of reform and rehabilitation. He emphasized that ensuring drug-free jails remains a key priority and commended the jail administration for its ongoing efforts in this direction.

The Minister also inspected various facilities, including the jail hospital, barracks and the Aam Aadmi Clinic. He interacted with inmates, listened to their concerns and assured them of the government’s continued support in improving their health, education and rehabilitation prospects.

He further noted that the petrol pump operated by the Jail Department is providing meaningful employment opportunities to inmates, contributing significantly to their skill development and reintegration into society.

Emphasizing the broader role of correctional institutions, the Minister remarked that jails are not merely places of punishment but institutions of reform that offer inmates a chance to rebuild their lives. He expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness and overall management of the jail and appreciated the welfare initiatives being implemented.

On the occasion, Secretary, Jail Department, Mohammad Tayyab, Jail Superintendent Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal and other senior officials were also present.
