Traffic system in Jalandhar is all set to become high-tech as E-Challan or Online Challan system is all set to start. E-Challan system in Jalandhar is expected to be launched on September 29, 2025. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav is expected to launch the online challan system.

As per reports, preparations are complete, but the exact date for issuing challans is not yet clear for the time being. Jalandhar E-Challan system will start with trails at 13 traffic hotspots or key points.

Jalandhar E-Challan System 13 key points

Trials will be conducted at 13 points across the city. During this period, flaws in the system will be identified. The e-challan system will be implemented only after inspecting the control room's operations.

Monitoring will be done through an Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) powered by 1,150 high-tech CCTV cameras. Vehicles violating traffic rules will be photographed immediately, and challans will be sent directly to their homes.

These are the 13 points where e-challans can be issued-

PAP, BSF, BMC, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, Guru Ravidas Chowk, Football Chowk, Kapurthala Chowk, Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk, Guru Amardas Chowk, Workshop Chowk, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chowk, Model Town, and Chunnmun Chowk.

How the E-Challan system will work?

Many of the 1,150 CCTV cameras are equipped with advanced features such as face recognition, red light violation detection (RLVD), speed domes, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom), and zoom. These cameras will help track traffic violations and offenders.

The cameras will record video footage and data of any suspicious activity. If an offender is spotted, the cameras will send an alert directly to the control room, ensuring immediate action.

Staff in the Traffic Control Room (ICCC) will control traffic signals across the city. If a driver jumps a traffic light or crosses a zebra line, the cameras will immediately send the footage to the control room.

This system uses Automatic Traffic Violation Detection and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. Challans will be issued by reading the number plates of violating vehicles.
